Custom Event Apparel Case Study

Custom Event Merch for HHN Media Night: Amusement Today x iHeartCustoms

Amusement Today needed custom apparel for its attendance at Halloween Horror Nights Media Night in Orlando. Rather than reaching for a standard promotional T-shirt, the project called for a heavier, boxier garment with a more contemporary silhouette — and decoration that could carry a large-scale graphic across the back of the shirt.

Halloween Horror Nights and Universal Orlando are referenced here only as event context. iHeartCustoms is not an official Halloween Horror Nights or Universal Orlando vendor, partner, or media provider, and this project does not reflect any formal relationship with either organization.

Choosing a Different Kind of Event Shirt

The requested aesthetic was heavyweight, boxy, and oversized — closer to a cropped, streetwear-inspired fit than a conventional lightweight promotional tee. To match that request, the shirts were built on Shaka Wear heavyweight cotton garments, chosen because that silhouette fit the aesthetic the project called for.

Two Shirt Designs, Multiple Decoration Locations

The project involved two separate shirt designs, decorated using DTF transfers across three locations: the left chest, the left sleeve, and an oversized graphic across the back of the shirt.

Oversized Back Graphics as the Visual Anchor

The oversized back graphics were a major visual component of the finished shirts. A large-format graphic across the back gives a shirt a very different presence than a small chest logo alone, which is part of why it played such a central role in this project's design approach.

DTF Decoration for the Project

DTF was the decoration method used across all three print locations. Heavyweight cotton garments like these come with their own production considerations, particularly around moisture and pressing technique — we cover that process in detail separately, since it's a big enough topic to warrant its own guide rather than a quick summary here.

From Promotional T-Shirt to Event Apparel

Not every event shirt needs to look like a conventional lightweight promotional tee. Garment silhouette, decoration placement, and artwork scale can produce very different finished apparel aesthetics from the same basic idea — a shirt with your branding on it. This project is one example of that: heavier fabric, a boxier fit, and a large-scale back graphic add up to something that reads more like event merchandise than a giveaway shirt.
